OREM, Utah - Utah Valley University athletics held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday for the grand re-opening of its academic center after a grant from the NCAA allowed for an upgrade of the facility.
"This is an exciting day," Director of Athletics Vince Otoupal said. "This ribbon cutting and this facility signifies our unrelenting commitment to academic success and Operation Graduation here at UVU. We look forward to continuing to do great things academically and athletically and doing them the Wolverine Way."
The $32,000 grant allowed for two new offices with furniture and computers while enclosing the once-open study hall area for the student athletes.
"This gives our student athletes a more unobtrusive area for study hall," said Cameron Walker, Assistant A.D. for Compliance and Academic Performance. "The new offices allow for privacy when our academic mentors and advisors meet with our student athletes as well."
UVU submitted a grant proposal to the NCAA's Supplement Support Fund (SSF) and with the grant was also able to streamline the monitoring and institute a digital sign-in process in the study hall while also extending study hall hours.
