Members of UVU’s Sports Medicine Team stepped onto the professional stage recently as they helped provide the official medical coverage for the AVP professional beach volleyball tournament in Salt Lake City.

Spencer Mack, Assistant Athletic Trainer at UVU served as the Onsite Medical Coordinator and was responsible for staffing the Medical Team for the event. He chose to keep the staff mostly in-house by bringing in Dr. Christopher Gordon, MD (UVU Team Physician) to serve as Supervising Physician, as well as Dr. Christian Hansen, DC (UVU Team Chiropractor), and Brad Clarke, LMT (UVU Team Massage Therapist) to assist in helping take care of the athletes participating in the tournament.

“It was great to be able to reward our UVU Medical Staff with such an amazing opportunity to work with some of the best Beach Volleyball Players in the world," said Mack. "When I was first asked to help coordinate this event I immediately thought of the guys that have worked so hard for us at UVU, who often get so little in return.”

Some of the athletes served by the medical staff included no less than five Olympic medalists from the last three Olympic games. The tournament was a huge success, and helped to give UVU just a little more exposure on the national stage.
