Sept. 25, 2012

OREM, Utah -- The Utah Valley University Athletics Department announced Monday the hiring of Jared Sumsion as Associate Athletic Director for External Operations, effective immediately.

Sumsion was previously the Assistant AD for Branding and Development and has managed all facets of UVU's Wolverine Club since 2007. Under his direction, the Wolverine Club experienced phenomenal progress, growing nearly 200-percent in terms of membership and dollars raised over the last five years.

In his role as Assoc. AD for External Operations, Sumsion's duties focus on enhancing current revenue streams and creating new ones for the department. Such duties include: major gift fundraising, donor relations, oversight of corporate partnerships, marketing and branding, promotions, and ticket sales. Sumsion will also serve as an administrator for Wolverine wrestling.

"I am excited for this opportunity for Jared," said UVU Director of Athletics Michael V. Jacobsen. "Brad Mertz has done an excellent job of building a solid foundation for our athletic development office, and we look forward to Jared building on that. Jared has the skills and the desire to increase our external revenue and has started doing that in a very positive way."

Sumsion received his bachelor's degree at UVU, where he served as student body president, and holds a master's degree in Business Administration. He is currently finalizing his dissertation for Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership with a minor in Conflict Resolution.

Prior to his time in athletic administration, Sumsion served as an assistant to former UVU President Bill Sederburg. In that role, Sumsion was a part of the administration that oversaw the institution's transition from Utah Valley State College to Utah Valley University.

Sumsion is a native of Springville, Utah, and currently resides in Orem with his wife Stephanie and son Kyson. The couple's second child is on the way.
