OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University Athletics has announced its four recipients for the Perry Homes Scholar Athletes of the Month for September and October: Erica Nish (volleyball), Haley Curtis (soccer), Ally Deeter (cross country) and Josh McCabe (cross country).
The four will be finalists for the Scholar Athlete of the Year at the annual Wolverine Club Athletic Awards and will also be honored during Wednesday's Wolverine Club luncheon.
Nish, a senior from Hooper, Utah, helped lead the Wolverines to their second straight Great West championship last week and is prepping for the conference tournament this weekend. An art education major with a 3.61 GPA, Nish leads the team in kills after battling back from a major knee injury that she suffered at the end of last season.
Curtis, a junior from Yakima, Wash., was named first-team All-Great West after helping UVU to another conference title. She then earned All-Tournament honors after scoring two goals in the championship game, a 5-2 Wolverine win for their second consecutive tournament title. Curtis has a 3.86 GPA while majoring in biology.
Deeter, a junior from Liberty, Utah, helped Utah Valley cap off its dominance over the Great West with the team's fifth straight conference championship in October. Deeter, who has a 3.71 GPA and is majoring in health education, finished fifth at the conference championships.
McCabe, a senior from Springville, Utah, is preparing to represent Utah Valley University at Saturday's NCAA Championships in Louisville. It will be the second opportunity for McCabe to compete in the championships after he finished 11th at the NCAA Mountain Regional last week. He has a 3.59 GPA while majoring in exercise science.
