Scott Houle just completed his ninth season as head track & field and cross country coach at Utah Valley. Houle capped off the year by leading both his men's and women's outdoor track & field teams to their fifth consecutive Great West Conference Championships.
During UVU's five seasons in the Great West Conference (2008-2013), Houle guided his Wolverines to an astonishing 21 of a possible 30 conference titles (5 men's outdoor, 5 women's outdoor, 1 men's indoor, 1 women's indoor, 4 men's cross country and 5 women's cross country), including all six in 2011-12.
Houle has been recognized for his efforts by his peers by being named both the men's and women's Great West Conference Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year 21 times.
In the spring of 2008, Houle was also named the National Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year after his teams swept the NAC Outdoor Championships held in Provo, Utah.
Houle has also produced 19 track & field NCAA Qualifiers during the past four seasons as well as led the cross country teams to the NCAA Mountain Regional every season since 2009. He has also coached Joshua McCabe to the NCAA Cross County Championships twice in the past three years.
Houle has coached nine Academic All-Americans in track & field team during the past four seasons and both the men's and women's track & field teams have also earned All-Academic status each year as well. The 2009 men's cross country team led the way by achieving a number seven national ranking with a team GPA of 3.63.
In Houle's first year he coached 12 Division I Independent All-Americans in track. His girls track team finished third at the 2005 Division I Independent championships in the spring. In cross country, Houle guided the Wolverine women runners to a fourth place finish at the Independent Championships while the men finished fifth.
Houle came to UVU via Orem High School. While at Orem from 1993-2004 he was the head cross country, track and field and girls basketball coaches. During that time his girls basketball team played for three state championships and his cross country and track and field teams finished second 10 times. In 2002 the Orem High girls cross country team won the state championship.
Prior to coaching at Orem, Houle was an assistant girl's basketball, boy's andgirl's track and cross country coach at Mountain View High School in 1992-93. In 1991-92 he was an assistant coach in women's basketball, track and cross country at SUU and in 1989-91 he was an assistant girl'sbasketball coach at Cedar City High School.
Houle graduated from Southern Utah University in 1992 with Bachelors in Physical Education and a Bachelors in Special Education. In 2002 he got his Masters from BYU in Education Administration.
Houle is married to Jana Houle. They have two children Skotie and Brylie. Outside of coaching, Houle enjoys spending time with his wife and kids and being outside. Coaching runs in the Houle family.
His brother Mark coaches track and cross country in Sebeka, Minnesota. Dave Houle was the head track, cross country and women's basketball coach at Mountain View High School in Orem for 25years. Dave has won 66 state championships, seven national championships and was sponsored by both Adidas and Nike. Kirk Houle was an assistant track and cross country coach at Mountain View and has been key in the success off track and cross country programs. Eric Houle has been the head track and cross country coach at SUU for the last 20 years.
