AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- Competing without a portion of their squads, the Utah Valley University men's and women's indoor track and field teams placed fifth (57) and seventh (45), respectively, at the Air Force Team Challenge Saturday at the Cadet Field House.

"Team-wise we did really well without a lot of our distance kids there," said UVU track and field coach Scott Houle, who said some of the kids were left home to rest after competing for four straight weeks. "I felt good with how we finished up without a quarter of our team there."

Ali Shields set a new school record in the triple jump with a mark of 10.91m, which was good for a sixth-place finish.

The Wolverines got a couple of first-place finishes as Aleina Eisenhower-Winger won the women's mile (5:08.26), and Tim Rowberry won the men's mile (4:18.03). In the same event, the UVU's Shelise Walker finished fourth (5:14.73) and Cliff Nielson finished third (4:20.34).

Zandrea Nelson had a great meet with the Wolverines with a second-place finish in the 400m (56.52); a fourth-place finish in the 200m (25.11) and she was the first leg in the 4 x 440 relay team that finished second (3:53.03). Megan Burr, Rebecca Brown-Renshaw and Sally Hansen were also part of the team.

"It was a pretty good all around meet for her," Houle said.

Allah Laryea-Akrong had a pair of top 3 finishes by placing second in the 60m (6.82) behind Colorado's Joe Morris (6.77) and third in the 200m (21.76).

In other notable performances: Michael McPherson finished third in the heptathlon (5,112) and the long jump (6.91m); Anna Yeboah (3rd, 60m, 7.70); Skylar Burningham (3rd, 400m, 49.46); men's 4 x 440 (McPherson, Mark Weaver, Rowberry, Taylor Asay, 3rd, 3:23.16).

The Colorado State men (128.50) and women (98) won the meet.
