NAMPA, Idaho - The Utah Valley University track & field teams had another solid meet on Saturday at the Boise State Team Challenge in Nampa, Idaho, as they combined to shatter four more school records. Senior Brooke Hodson-Davies and junior Ivie Gonsalves each set new records for the women while sophomore Cole Eisenhour and freshman Ryle Williams broke them for the men.
Hodson-Davies and Gonsalves each set new school records in the 3000-meter run as the junior Gonsalves won the event in a blazing time of 9:49.82 and Hodson-Davies finished right behind her in second place with 9:51.86. Gonsalves also led the way for the Wolverine women in the 1-mile run by taking second in the race with a time of 5:12.64.
On the men's side, the hurdler Eisenhour continued his stellar indoor season with a solid time of 8.13 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. The UVU sophomore's time was not only good enough to win the event but also to break his previous school record by two one-hundredths of a second. Williams also set a new school record for the Wolverine men in the high jump as he won the event by clearing 6'-10.75" (2.10m).
"It was a great meet. We had four school records as well as great performances in a number of events, including the men's and women's 200," head coach Scott Houle said. "As a team we accomplished a lot of good things here in Boise, but we also had a couple of injuries popup. We're hopeful, however, that we can get all these kids healed up before heading into conference."
In the men's 200m dash, junior Michael McPherson led the way by winning the race with a time of 21.89 seconds, while freshman Brandon Smart placed second (22.01) and sophomore Logan Rusch came in fourth (22.47). Smart also paced the Wolverines in the 60m by taking third with a time of 7.08 seconds and McPherson continued his strong meet by placing second in the long jump with a leap of 6.67m.
Sophomore Josh Monsen
also had another big outing as he won the 800m run in a time of 1:53.82.
The men's team also got solid showings on Saturday from sophomores Trevor Sharp and Jason Lynch in the 1-mile run as they finished second and third, respectively, with times of 4:21.73 and 4:22.41. Lynch also placed third in the 3000m with a time of 8:44.51.
In other notable performances for the women, senior Autumn Robertson took second in the high jump 5'-03.00" (1.60m) and the relay team of Corrie Lamoreaux, Samantha Reeves, Wendy Peterson and Sam Sweet took third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:53.11. Reeves also finished fourth in the 800m (2:19.16) while sophomore Aisha Graham placed fourth in the 1-mile (5:14.23) and freshman Lauren Hicks took fourth in the triple jump (11.32m).
Both the Wolverine men and women will have their final regular season indoor meet at Weber State next week. The Wildcat Open will be held Feb. 19 and Feb. 22 in Ogden. UVU will then head to Moscow, Idaho, the following week to compete at its first WAC Indoor Championship Feb. 26-28.
