Oxy Distance Carnival Results | Ben Brown Invitational Results
FULLERTON, Calif. - The Utah Valley University men's and women's track & field teams completed a solid weekend in Southern California on Saturday. UVU competed at both the Oxy Distance Carnival at Occidental College on Friday as well as Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational on both Friday and Saturday.
Senior distance runner Brooke Hodson-Davies had a big weekend as she not only won the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Oxy Distance Carnival on Friday but also placed third in 1500m title on Saturday at the Ben Brown Invite. Hodson-Davies, who qualified for the NCAA's in the steeplechase a year ago, recorded a personal record in the 3000m steeplechase as she finished 35 seconds ahead of everyone else with a time of 10:27.98. Her time of 10:27.98 is 2.53 seconds faster ahead of her NCAA qualifying time from last year. Hodson-Davies then continued her stellar weekend by running a 4:40.50 in the 1500m run on Saturday for a third-place finish at Cal State Fullerton.
Freshman Bennie Foster also had an outstanding meet on Saturday as she set a new school record in the women's pole vault by clearing 3.40m (11'-01.75'). Her vault was good enough to take second in the event.
The women's squad also had stellar performances from Savannah Heywood and Aisha Graham at the Oxy Distance Carnival as they placed second (2:13.55) and fourth (2:14.08), respectively, the 800m run on Friday night as well as Ivie Gonsalves as she took third in the 5000 with a time of 17:08.64. Gonsalves' 17:08.64 is good enough to now rank her third all-time at Utah Valley in the 5000m run.
On the men's side, Chris Dorton
and Trac Norris
finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800 on Friday with times of 1:53.03 and 1:53.16 and fourth and fifth, respectively, on Saturday in the 1500 with times of 3:51.15 and 3:51.32. Jason Lynch
led the way in the men's 5000m run on Friday by taking 10th in the race with a time of 14:40.99.
On Saturday in Fullerton, Ryle Williams and Scott Moake finished one, two in the men's high jump. Williams won the event by clearing 2.05m (6'-08.75") and Moake finished right behind him (2.00m/6'06-75"). Michael McPherson took third in the men's 100m dash (10.85), fourth in the 110m hurdles (14.91) and fifth in the men's long jump (6.98m/22'-11"), while Ali Shields took fifth in women's long jump (5.35m/17'-06.75) as well as fifth in the triple jump (11.44m/37'-06.50") and ninth in the 100m hurdles (14.65).
The women's relay team of Samantha Reeves, Sam Sweet, Wendy Peterson and Corrie Lamoreaux had a strong 4x400m relay as they took third in the race with a time of 3:53.66.
Autumn Robertson led the way for the Wolverine women in the high jump on Saturday by taking seventh (1.60m/5'-03") and Gately Garnett took eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 67.07 seconds. Samantha Reeves posted a 10th-place finish in the women's 100m dash (12.53) and a 12th-place one in the 200 (25.19). Marcus Pratt led the way for the men in the pole vault as he took seventh in the event (4.60m/15'-01") while Mike Keith led the way in the 400m by taking 10th with a time of 49.36.
Both the Wolverine men and women will now return to Orem to host their first home track meet of the season as they will host the UVU Collegiate at the Hal Wing Track & Field on Friday, March 28.
