Track completes weekend at Weber State's Wildcat Open

OGDEN, Utah - The Utah Valley University track & field teams completed their weekend with a number of solid performances at Weber State's Wildcat Outdoor Open on Saturday at Stewart Stadium.

Freshman thrower McKay Burnett led the way for the Wolverines by taking fifth in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 49.89-meters or 163'-08". Sophomore jumper Scott Moake was next for Utah Valley with a sixth-place finish in the high jump by clearing 2.00m or 6'-06.75".

Freshman distance runner Savannah Heywood led the UVU women's squad by taking seventh in the 1500m run with a time of 4:54.10. Junior Jessica Lingwall, sophomore Sam Sweet and freshman Caitlin Woodward also had strong showings as they all placed eighth in their respective events. Lingwall took eighth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.39 while Sweet ran a 56.74 in the 400m and Woodward recorded a toss of 35.43m or 116'-03" in the javelin.

The Wildcat Open featured competitors from Weber State, UVU, Utah, Utah State, Idaho State, Montana State, Wyoming and Westminster.

UVU also participated at the Utah Spring Classic in Salt Lake City on Friday and freshman Bennie Foster led the way by breaking the school record in the women's pole vault. Junior Michael McPherson also had another stellar outing at that meet by winning the 200m dash and taking second in the long jump.



The Wolverines will now prepare to head to Southern California next week for three different meets. UVU will take part at the renowned Mt. SAC Relays, as well as the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Beach Invitational. The Mt. SAC Relays will get underway on April 16, while the Bryan Clay Invite will be held on April 18 and the Beach Invite will take place on April 19.
