AUSTIN, Texas - Utah Valley University's Shelise Walker finished 12th in her heat with the time of 4 minutes 47.12 seconds in the 1500 meters Saturday at the NCAA Preliminaries at Mike A. Myers Stadium at the Universtiy of Texas and failed to advance to the semifinals.

"She was aggressive the first two laps and in the third lap when the leaders of the pack made their move she couldn't go with them," UVU track and field coach Scott Houle said. "She was tired. The heat (85-90 degrees) really got to her. It really affected her."

She ran a 4:30.16 in the opening race Thursday to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.

In all, UVU had five athletes participate in the preliminary: Maryn Pincock (discus); Nicholas Taylor (100 meters, 200 meters); McKell Camp-Nielson (javelin) and Tim Rowberry (800 meters).
