NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Utah Valley's Allah Laryea-Akrong and South Dakota's Rob Gregoire and Bethany Buell were chosen Great West Conference Track Athletes of the Week. The awards, the first of the 2010 season, were announced Friday by the conference office.

Laryea-Akrong won the 60 and 200-meter dashes to lead Utah Valley University's men's and women's track & field teams last Friday night at Idaho State's Bengal Shootout.

Laryea-Akrong, who broke the school record in the 60m to open the indoor season at BYU a week before, got close to breaking his own record (6.80) as he won the 60-meter dash with a blazing time of 6.83. The freshman from Ghana also posted a solid time of 21.80 in the 200-meter dash to win that event as well.

Other athletes nominated for this week's honors were North Dakota's Josh LeBlanc and Brittany Brenny, Seattle's Zach Stanfield and Utah Valley's Becky Reeves.
