OREM, Utah - Junior heptathlete Michael McPherson will represent Utah Valley University at the 2014 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend. McPherson will be one of eight competitors to take part in the heptathlon that will run on Friday and Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
The men's heptathlon will begin at Friday at noon MT with the running of the 60-meter dash. The seven-event affair will then close on Saturday with the 1000-meter run at 1:45 p.m.
Live results for the entire meet can be followed at usatf.org while live video will be available on Saturday by visiting usatf.tv.
McPherson will be Utah Valley's first-ever student-athlete to compete at the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The native of Parker, Colo., leads the WAC in the heptathlon this season as well as ranks 17th nationally after he put up 5,432 points at the BYU Invitational in early January.
The 2014 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships are the world's oldest indoor track & field championship and this weekend will be the fourth time that it will be held in Albuquerque.
The 2014 USATF Indoor Championships will serve as the selection meet for the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships that will be held in Sopot, Poland, on March 7-9.
Although McPherson will be the lone Wolverine competing at the USATF Indoor Championships this weekend, he won't be the only UVU athlete in action as both the men's and women's track & field teams will be taking part at Weber State's Wildcat Open on Wednesday and Saturday. The Wildcat Open will mark the final tune-up for the Wolverines prior to next week's WAC Indoor Championships that will run Feb. 26-28 at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, Idaho.
