CHICAGO -- In mid January, the Utah Valley men's and women's indoor track and field teams were selected by the Great West Conference coaches to win their respective titles.

Beginning Saturday, the Wolverines will attempt to prove them right.

"I definitely don't like being favored going in, but we're excited for the challenge," UVU indoor track and field coach Scott Houle said. "This is really our first year being healthy (going into the conference meet)."

In each of the last three seasons, the men's and women's teams have finished second to the University of South Dakota, but USD left for The Summit League this past season.

"The conference has gotten better. It's getting a lot deeper," Houle said. "It has been fun to see how the conference has matured over the years."

In the preseason poll, the UVU women's team received all seven first-place votes, while the men's team received six. Houston Baptist received the other first-place vote.

On the women's side, expect Zandrea Nelson, Megan Burr, Aleina Eisenhauer-Winger and Becca Hutton to anchor the team, while Allah Laryea-Akrong, Joshua McCabe, Cliff Nielson, and Michael McPherson will be the anchors for the men's team.

"If they do well, then the team will do well," Houle said.

The meet will get underway at 7 a.m. MT with the first men's heptathlon event, while the women's pentathlon gets underway with its first event at 7:15 a.m.

Individual events and relays will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the women's long jump.

Competition continues with heptathlon events at 6 a.m., while individual and relays continue at 6:30 a.m.
