San Diego is Next Stop for UVU Track Teams
March 13, 2013
SAN DIEGO -- The Utah Valley University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will participate in the first full-fledge meet of the outdoor season this weekend at the 34th Annual Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University. "It's good competition," UVU track and field coach Scott Houle said. "The altitude is nice and the weather is nice." All, Houle said, are a recipe for good times and marks. "It should be a good meet," he said. "Our kids are starting to run really well. We are healthy and I think there will be some performances from our kids at this meet." The meet begins at noon Thursday with the 100 meters in the decathlon and the heptathlon will begin at 1 p.m. with the 100-meter hurdles. The decathlon and heptathlon continues Friday, while the hammer throw will kick of field events at 9 a.m. at neighboring UC San Diego. Running events will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the running of the women's 4x100 relay. Competition on the the final day begins at 10 a.m. with the women's discus. A handful of student-athletes participated in the UNLV Track Classic two weeks ago, but Houle said a majority of the team will compete in the meet this weekend.
