NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The Great West Conference track and field coaches have chosen Utah Valley University and Houston Baptist to win the 2013 conference titles in their annual preseason poll.

The Wolverines and Huskies tied for the top spot in the women's poll, while UVU edged out HBU by one point on the men's side.

Utah Valley is the only school to win a men's or women's GWC outdoor title, claiming the championships each of the past four years. Houston Baptist, which won the 2013 men's and women's indoor crowns last month, is hoping to continue the success and dethrone the Wolverines from their outdoor dominance.

UVU received four first-place votes and 33 points in the men's balloting, while HBU garnered two first-place votes for 32 points. Texas-Pan American finished in third with 23 points, followed by CSU Bakersfield and NJIT which tied for fourth place with 15 points apiece. Chicago State rounded out the men's poll with eight points.

The coaches split the votes in the women's poll, giving HBU and UVU three first-place votes and 33 points each. UTPA came in third with 20 points, followed by CSUB with 17 points, NJIT with 14 points, and CSU with nine points.

The 2013 GWC Track and Field Championships will be held May 3-5, at Humble, Texas, and will be hosted by Houston Baptist.
