Wolverines Run Well at Pomona and BYU

Orem, UT - The Utah Valley State track team had a busy weekend, competing at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Friday and the BYU Invitational on Saturday.

The highlight of the two meets came on Friday when Michael Vick set a school, meet and track record at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in the 10,000 meter run. Vick finished the event with a time of 31:20.56. His teammate Ryan Gurr finished the race second with a time of 31:37.57. Gurr held the previous school record at 32:04.07. Vick later ran a 15:19.21 in the 5000 at the BYU Invitational on Saturday.

Utah Valley had two other top finishes in the women-s events in Pomona.

Mariama Salifu finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.15 seconds, just 43 tenths of a second of the first place finisher Maryann Erigha of Notre Dame.

The women-s 4 x 100 relay also finished second with a time of 47.46 seconds. The relay team consisted of Salifu, Kari Snow, Tawny Judkins and Nicole Olsen.

Chris Fogt ran a 10.91 in the 100, good for a fifth place finish at Pomona.

At the BYU Invitational, Tiera Zaugg finished third in the 400 with a time of 59.99. The women-s 4 x 100 relay team (Calli Bentley, Jenny Smith, Monique Ellett, Jessica Wayne) finished third. Fogt also finished second in the 200 with a mark of 22.12 seconds.
