Wednesday's Weber State Twilight Meet canceled

OREM, Utah - Wednesday's Weber State Twilight Meet has been canceled and will not be made up due to an impending storm headed for the Wasatch Front. The meet would have marked Utah Valley's regular season finale.

Without Wednesday's meet in Ogden, UVU will now send eight of its student-athletes to Los Angeles, California, for Saturday's Oxy Invitational that will be contested at Occidental College. The last-chance qualifying meet begin at 11 a.m. PT with the men's shot put and is expected to conclude around 9:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the 5000-meter run. The eight Wolverines that will head to Saturday's Oxy Invite will be distance runners Chris Dorton, Jason Lynch, Josh Monsen, Trac Norris, Ivie Gonsalves, Aisha Graham, Celeste Gutzman and Brooke Hodson-Davies.

Norris led the way for Utah Valley last week at the BYU Cougar Invitational as the sophomore distance runner set a new school record in the 1-mile run (4:04.40) and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries in the process for the 1500m run (3:46.29). Besides Norris' big outing at BYU, UVU also won six individual events at the meet. Michael McPherson led the way by taking home the 200m dash as well as the long jump, while Graham won the women's 800m, Chris Brower took the 3000m steeplechase and Mike Keith and Sam Sweet earned first-place finishes the men's and women's 400m dashes. McPherson won the 200m with a time of 21.22 seconds and the long jump with a mark of 7.20m or 23'-07.50" while Graham earned her 800m victory with a time of 2:14.25, Brower took his 3000m steeplechase in 9:54.53 and Keith and Sweet won their 400m races with respective times of 49.02 and 57.42.

Following Saturday's Oxy Invite, UVU will turn its attention to next week's WAC Championships. The Wolverines' will host their inaugural WAC Outdoor Championship at UVU's Hal Wing Track & Field in Orem on May 14-17. The 14 and 15 will feature mainly the women's heptathlon as well as the men's decathlon while the majority of the championship meet will take place on Friday and Saturday.
