LOGAN, Utah --
Utah Valley University sophomores Jason Lynch and Bridget Hazel each recorded second-place finishes at Saturday's season-opening Utah State Invitational.

On the men's side in a four-mile race, Lynch ran in front for much of the race before USU's Kyle McKenna (20:52.17) finished strong to pick up the individual title. Lynch came in with a time of 20:55.92. Utah State won with 24 points to UVU's 32 in the dual.

Trac Norris (21:10.90) took fourth and Chris Brower (21:23.39) seventh for UVU.

In the women's 5K, Hazel (19.37.80) edged out UVU teammate Ivie Gonsalves (19.38.04), who is redshirting and ran unattached, by just 24-hundredths of a second to finish in second. Utah State's Tori Parkinson (19:33.71) took first on the women's side. The host Aggies, running on their home course, won the team title with 25 points to the Wolverines' 45.

The Wolverines had other unattached harriers run well in addition to Gonsalves: Ally Deeter (19:55.20) finished eighth on the women's side while Chuk Mitchell (21:23.29) came in sixth for the men.

Utah Valley will run again on Friday, Sept. 13 when it hosts the UVU Invitational. More information will be forthcoming about the exact time and location of the event.
