UVU Fares Well at Season-Opening Aggie Invite
Sept. 1, 2012 LOGAN, Utah-- The Utah Valley University women's and men's cross country teams opened the season with second- and third-place finishes, respectively, Saturday at the Aggie Invitational. "For our first race we went out and got the summer bugs out. We're going to be a good team. We saw some good things," UVU men's and women's cross country coach Scott Houlesaid. "I'm excited with what I saw. We have some good youth and good experience." The Wolverine women finished with 76 points behind Weber State's 24 points, while Utah State was third with 81 points. Freshman Darian Sharp placed 11th overall to lead the Wolverines with the time of 18 minutes, 36 seconds and Krystal Harper was 12th overall at 18:39. Junior Ivie Gonsalves was 16th overall (18:52) followed by Bridget Hazel (18th, 18:54) and Stephanie Christensen(19th, 19:01). The UVU men scored 86 points. Weber State was second with 65 and BYU won the invite with 30 points. Cliff Nielson placed seventh overall (19:27) to lead UVU followed by Macy Butterfield (10th, 19:37), Mike Felix (16th, 19:50), Spencer Evensen (20th, 20:08) and Logan Wood(28th, 20:25). The Wolverines are back in action Sept. 14 at the BYU Invitational. The women's 5K will get underway at 5 p.m. and the men's 4-mile will get underway at 6 p.m.
