OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley's Trac Norris and Brooke Hodson-Davies both took third in their respective races and Utah Valley finished second, just behind Wyoming, at the UVU Invitational on Friday at Lakeside Park in Orem. It was the first cross country meet hosted by UVU since the 2008 season.
Norris finished the men's 6K -- shortened from a four-mile race -- in 18:26.3, following up his fourth-place finish at the season-opening Utah State invitational two weeks ago. For Hodson-Davies, its a career-best placing for the senior who dealt with injuries last season and redshirted the season prior.
The Wolverines were racing for the first time since the meet at Utah State. Up next for UVU is the Montana State Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22.
"We came in fresh and you could tell the kids had a week off," said head coach Scott Houle. "Going into next week will be nice because we do have to learn how to run back-to-back weeks. All in all the last week has paid off and I think the kids will be ready to race at Montana State."
In addition to winning the individual team titles on Friday, Wyoming runners captured the top spots individually as well: Garrett Zans won the men's 6K with a time of 18:08.1 and Holly Page took first in the women's 5K, finishing in 18:03.7.
For Utah Valley, Jason Lynch (18:36.2) took fourth on Friday to follow up his second-place finish at Utah State. Behind Norris and Lynch and among UVU's leaders were Josh Monson (18:41.0) with a seventh-place finish, Chuk Mitchell (18:43.7) in ninth, Chris Brower (18:43.7) finished 10th and Seth Gutzwiller (18:52.0) came in the 12th spot.
Behind Hodson-Davies in the women's race, McKenzie Snyer (18:47.3) took seventh, Bridget Hazel (18:53.8) placed ninth and Jessica Wilding (19:03.8) finished 12th. Ivie Gonsalves, running unattached, finished in fourth with a time of 18:35.4.
