CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Utah Valley University men's and women's cross country teams swept the team titles at the Color Country Invite at Cedar Ridge Golf Course on on a windy Friday afternoon. The men had a perfect score of 15 points while the women's team won a tiebreaker for first with Idaho State. It's the second straight year the Wolverine men and women have both placed first at the meet.

"Today's race shows we're starting to run well as a team," said head coach Scott Houle. "I think we're starting to come together as we get ready for the WAC Championships."

With several unattached runners in the field, the Wolverines had to top six point-scoring spots with Jason Lynch taking third to lead the UVU men, finishing the 6K in 19:42.8. Chris Brower was right behind Lynch in fourth with a time of 19:47.4. Chris Dorton (7th, 19:58.0), Chuk Mitchell (13th, 20:10.1), Trac Norris (14th, 20:13.2) and Josh Monsen (16th, 20:15.4) rounded out the first six Wolverines. Idaho State finished in second with 55 points.

On the women's side, Darian Sharp finished second, the same spot she finished in at last season's race in Cedar City, with a time of 15:17.4 in the 4K. Brooke Hodson-Davies (15:30.3) took fifth, Bridget Hazel (15:36.8) came in eighth and Jessica Wilding (14:45.7) placed 10th as UVU and Idaho State each finished with 28 points.

"It's great to see Darian running consistently well now and to have Brooke finish where she did is great. I'm happy with how the girls are competing as a team," Houle said.

SUU runner Nate Jewkes, running unattached, won the men's race with a time of 19:30.9 while Idaho State's Jasmine Nesbitt won the individual title on the women's side, finishing in 15:30.8.

The Wolverines will have one more tuneup prior to competing in their first conference championship as members of the WAC. UVU will run at Santa Clara on Oct. 19 with the WAC Championships taking place in Seattle on Nov. 2.
