June 2, 2009
OREM, Utah -- The Utah Valley University men's and women's cross country teams unveiled their 2009 schedules Tuesday with nine different dates on it including one home meet, as the Wolverines will host the UVU Invitational on Oct. 17. This season marks the first year which Utah Valley will be fully NCAA Division I certified and eligible for post-season events as UVU will be able to participate at the NCAA Western Regionals in Albuquerque, N.M., on Nov. 9 and the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22. "Obviously the big excitement for us this year is that we get the opportunity to go to the NCAA Championships," UVU head cross country coach Scott Houle said. "This season we put together a schedule that will progressively get tougher and tougher. It will help us prepare to compete against some of the best teams in the country, compete for conference championships and qualify for regionals and the NCAA Championships." Last year the Wolverine women's team won the inaugural Great West Conference Cross Country Championships while the men's team finished second. This season Utah Valley will return a number of key contributors and will look to achieve their goals by winning the GWC Cross Country Championships that will be held in Newark, N.J. on the campus of NJIT on Oct. 31. Utah Valley will open up their 2009 seasons on Sept. 5 close to home at the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah. On Sept. 12 the Wolverines will then head to Pocatello, Idaho to take part in the Idaho State Triangular. UVU will then participate in two larger cross country meets the next two weeks as they will take part in the Montana State Invitational on Sept. 19, and the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota on Sept. 26. Before heading home for UVU's home meet on the year, on Oct. 17, the Wolverines will travel to Cedar City, Utah to participate at the Color Country Invitational on Oct. 10.
