OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University track & field and cross country head coach Scott Houle released his 2009-10 recruiting class Wednesday, which includes 43 athletes (24 men and 19 women) that will help solidify his roster and give the Wolverines a legitimate chance to repeat as Great West Conference Champions.

"Overall I feel that this is our best recruiting class that we have ever brought in," Houle said. "We signed a number of outstanding male and female athletes that will only help us get better. We are really excited with our recruiting class as a whole this year. We added multiple pieces to help fill voids left by our graduating senior's. Hopefully our new class will help us go after multiple Great West Conference Championships this year."

On the men's side Utah Valley immediately got stronger in distance and cross country. Houle added standouts that include Seth Gutzwiller a 5A State Champion out of Davis HS, Trac Norris a 1A State Champ from Panguitch HS, Jason Lynch who finishing second at State in 5A from Hillcrest HS, Chris Brower a decorated distance runner out of Bear River HS, and Josh Monson from Richfield HS who broke state records in the one mile as well as the two mile.

Other additions that Houle expects to make an immediate impact to UVU's men's team include Dean Swimmer, from Jamaica, who will be a strong participant in long jump and triple jump. Mike Keith brings great strength in the 400m and is from Bingham HS. Aaron Best has recently returned from serving a LDS mission is a former multiple State Champion in the throwing events at Hurricane HS, and Chandler Reiske from Payson brings depth to the hurdle events.

Top women coming to Utah Valley in the fall are Latoya Shaw, a top sprinter from Jamaica that holds times of 11.7 in the 100m and 24.2 in the 200m. As well as Sally Hansen a three-time State Champion from Idaho that will be large for the Wolverines in the 200m, 400m, and long jump.

Utah Valley track and cross country teams are coming off of their best seasons in 2008-09 as the women's cross country team won the inaugural GWC Championships while the men's team finished second. In outdoor track & field UVU made a clean sweep of the Great West Championships in Houston, Texas as the men's and women's teams both brought home championships. Utah Valley's men's and women's teams also both finished in second place at the GWC Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the University of South Dakota.
