UVU Cross Country Teams Gear for Montana State Invite

OREM -- After being idle for two weeks, the Utah Valley University men's and women's cross country teams return to action Saturday at the Montana State Invitational in Bozeman, Mont. The Wolverines opened the season strong by finishing second (women) and third (men) at the Wyoming Invitational in Laramie, Wyo., on Sept. 2. Saturday's five-mile men's race begins at 9 a.m., and the women's race will begin at 9:40 a.m. In Wyoming, Shelise Walker paced the Wolverines with a 10th-place finish with the time of 15 minutes, 11.1 seconds, while Ivie Gonsalves and Mackenzie Roberts finished 14th and 19th, respectively with times of 15:36.8 and 15:52.7. On the men's side UVU sophomore Cliff Nielson led the way by placing seventh overall with a time of 22:34.5 in the 4.25-mile race. Behind him sophomore Mike Felix came in 12th (23:04.5), freshman Alex Dutton 13th (23:09.4), junior Chris Claflin 17th (23:15.6) and sophomore Macy Butterfield 19th (23:23.4). Wolverine senior Tim Rowberry finished 26th with a time of 23:38.6 and freshman Joseph Christensen placed 27th (23:48.2). Following the Montana State Invitational, the Wolverines will compete in the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 24.
