Nothum Named GWC Student-Athlete of the Month for Second Consecutive Month

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Utah Valley University cross country runner Mary Nothum was named on Wednesday as the Great West Conference Women's Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of October. This marks the second consecutive month that Nothum has won the conference honor. Nothum, a junior from Washington, Mo., was named the Great West Women's Runner of the Year after she won the GWC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 31, with a blazing time of 22:16.49. With her top finish at the championship, she helped the Wolverines to a first place finish at the conference meet for the second consecutive year. Nothum also placed second overall at Southern Utah's Color Country Invitational on Oct. 10, helping her team to a second place finish. Nothum was also UVU's top runner all season long and she helped her team make it to the NCAA Mountain Regional for the first time in school history. Nothum also won the same award for the month of September where she had another impressive month leading the Wolverines on the cross country course. This award received by Nothum marks the third consecutive month in a row that a Wolverine has been named the conference women's student-athlete of the month as UVU volleyball player Kayli Broadbent was honored for her play in the month of August. UC Davis' Greg Denham was named the men's athlete of the month for the month of Oct., from the sport of football. Nothum finished her cross country season on Nov. 14 as she placed 42nd overall at the NCAA Mountain Regional finishing out of qualification for the NCAA Championships.
