TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Utah Valley University cross country runner Joshua McCabe, who was the first in school history to compete at NCAA Nationals, finished 242nd with the time of 33 minutes, 42.3 seconds at the national meet Monday after an injury slowed him down with three kilometers to go at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.

"He was around the Top 100 when he can by us," UVU cross country coach Scott Houle said. "He looked strong and then at the 7K-mark he had the cramp and it realty affected him."

Despite the finish at nationals, McCabe, the Great West Conference Runner of the Year, had a stellar junior season.

He opened the 2010 season with a win at the Wyoming Invitational and finished just two seconds off the course record. He followed it up with a 26th-place finish at the Roy Griak Invite in Minneapolis and a second-place finish at the SUU Invitational.

At Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute on Oct. 16, he finished 33rd, and then two weeks later he finished first in leading the Wolverines to their second straight GWC championship.

Liberty's Samuel Chelanga of Liberty won his second straight title Monday, becoming the 10th man in NCAA history to win back-to-back national championships.

Oklahoma State men won the overall men's title, while Villanova won the women's championship.
