LOS ANGELES - Kade Andrus went 3-for-3 with a home run and a double as Utah Valley University evened the three-game series at Loyola Marymount with a 5-3 win on Saturday. UVU (1-1) scored twice in the ninth to defeat the Lions (1-1).

The two runs came in on an error, allowing Greyson Bogden to follow Beau Kallas home and give the Wolverines the win after Kyle Valgardson pitched the bottom of the ninth to get the save.

"For us to come from behind like we did and take advantage of the breaks we got was good to see. It was something we didn't do a lot of last year, to be frank," said head coach Eric Madsen. "The entire club made the adjustments at the plate we needed and put some pressure on the bases. It was nice to see Kade swing it like that and Sean really put a good swing on his home run."

The Wolverines caught a break with one out in the ninth inning when Kallas, who homered on Friday, reached on a wild pitch after striking out. Greyson Bodgen singled to put two on, and a batter later Andrus reached for the fourth time in the game on a walk, loading the bases for pinch-hitter Zac Fuller. Fuller hit a grounder towards the hole at third with Tyler Cohen making a diving stop, but his errant throw got past second and into right field allow the runs to come in.

The bullpen produced for Utah Valley for the second straight day, combining for five scoreless innings. Braden Poole pitched three those innings, allowing just one hit while striking out a pair and Tyler Sturdivant saw his first collegiate action and pitched a scoreless eighth to pick up the win. Kyle Valgardson then pitched the ninth to earn the save.

"We got another great outing from our bullpen. I'm very pleased with how we've thrown the ball so far," Madsen said.

The Lions (1-1) led 2-0 in the third when Andrus's home run came with one out and nobody on. Loyola Marymount got that run back in the fourth, with a two-out RBI single from David Edwards to bring home Chris Barnett.

In the fifth, Bogden led off with a single and moved to second on a balk. Andrus drove him home with an RBI double to cut the lead to a run, 3-2.

Moysh tied it an inning later, driving the ball over the wall in right for his first home run and the team's third of the series.

UVU had with eight hits on the day -- three for extra bases -- with LMU also finishing with eight hits, all singles. Andrus also had a double and a stolen base for the Wolverines. The Utah Valley pitching staff did not allow a runner past second base after the fourth inning.

The rubber match is Sunday at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT with senior Devin Nelson taking the mound for Utah Valley.
