Moraga, California - Utah Valley State baseball fell to 0-3 on the young season on Friday, suffering a 16-1 defeat at the hands of St. Mary's.

The Gaels scored 13 of their runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to rout the Wolverines and improve to 4-8.

Seniors Derrick Thomas and Dan Bulow had two hits each for Utah Valley, while junior Matt Ratliff threw two perfect innings out of the bullpen.

St. Mary's junior Sean Gleason dominated on the mound, throwing eight innings and striking out 13 Wolverines while allowing an earned run. The only run UV could muster was in the eighth, after two Gael errors.

Randy Wells had four hits for St. Mary's while Kyle Jensen added three

Tai Penrod took the loss on the hill for Utah Valley, dropping to 0-2 on the year.

UV struggled defensivley as well, committing five errors in the game.

The two teams will continue the series tomorrow at 3pm MT with the Wolverines scheduled to start Bryan Smith. The series finale will be Sunday at 2pm MT.
