CEDAR CITY, Utah - Senior Marcus Moore struck out 10 batters in eight innings of work as Utah Valley earned its first victory of the season, 7-2, at Southern Utah on Friday.
Moore allowed just one run on three hits in reaching double figure strikeouts for the fifth time in his career.
Jace Brinkerhoff and Aaron Brady both hit two-run home runs for the Wolverines (1-4-1) in a four-run seventh inning that gave UV a 7-1 cushion.
In the top of the first, Brinkerhoff doubled and scored on a Kai Hatch single to give the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead.
After UV plated two more runs in the third on RBI's from Adam Openshaw and Kai Hatch, the T-Birds got on the board when Ray Wright doubled home Joe Wright with two outs in the bottom of the third.
Despite two doubles and his lone run allowed in the third, Moore struck out the side while allowing just one walk his entire appearance.
In the seventh, Cole Anderson singled with one out before Brady's home run to center. Two batters later, Ryan Jones singled and Brinkerhoff hit his first home run of the year to left-center.
The series will wrap up on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1pm MT.
