EDINBURG, Texas - Blake Krahenbuhl tossed 7.2 innings of three-hit baseball as Utah Valley completed a four-game sweep at Texas-Pan American with a 5-2 win. The Wolverines improve to 23-20 overall and 15-1 in the Great West Conference.
Pitching on three days' rest, Krahenbuhl's only run allowed came on a second-inning home run by Vincent Mejia. He struck out three and walked one to improve to 5-2 on the year.
Goose Kallunki had two hits and drove in two runs while Cole McWhorter and Austin Heaps also had two hits apiece.
UVU took an early lead after Chris Benson doubled in a run and Kallunki had a sac-fly to make it 2-0 in the first.
Up 2-1 heading to the sixth, Heaps doubled to begin the inning and Kallunki reached on an infield hit. Court Zollinger later drove in Heaps with a single past Mejia at third for his fifth RBI of the series to make it 3-1.
The Wolverines got two more in the seventh, when Heaps' grounder scored Jason Zundel and Kallunki got a two-out single to center - his 46th RBI of the year - extending the lead to 5-1.
The Broncs (19-23, 8-12) scored an unearned run in the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but Ryan Chadwick got Stuart MacInnes to ground out to Kallunki at third to end the game.
Utah Valley returns home this week to host third-place Houston Baptist in a four-game series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. MT at Brent Brown Ballpark.
