EDINBURG, Texas -- Down eight runs after four innings, Utah Valley University came from behind to defeat Texas-Pan American, 16-12, on Saturday in a four hour and 37 minute contest on a hot South Texas afternoon.

Trailing 10-2, the Wolverines (24-28, 15-9) scored two in the fifth and six in the sixth to tie the game at 10-10. Kai Hatch -- who tied a school record with six RBIs -- delivered a bases-loaded tripled with two outs that tied the game.

The Broncs (27-28, 17-10) scored twice in the sixth to regain the lead but UVU had three runs in both the eighth and the ninth to win the regular season finale and avoid the series sweep.

"It was good to see us fight back like that. After the way things had gone this weekend it would have been really easy for us not to," said UVU head coach Eric Madsen. "UTPA is a very good club and I'm proud of how we battled today."

Greyson Bogden and Riley White match Hatch with three-hit days. Bryan Ramirez and Will Klausing both had three hits and three RBIs for UTPA.

Trailing 12-10 in the eighth, Mark Krueger's RBI groundout brought home the first run in the inning before a two-out double by White plated Bodgen and tied it a 12-12. Stone Ramsey followed White with a double of his own to give the Wolverines the lead.

Brian Whatcott (2-1) got the win after throwing 2.1 scoreless innings. Pratt scored four runs for Utah Valley with Bogden and Zollinger each scoring three times.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, UVU took advantage of a pair of walks in the inning and got a two-out RBI single from Bogden that brought home Court Zollinger to tie the game at 1-1. Hatch gave UVU a lead when he bounced a ball through the left side, scoring Willie Pratt from third.

That lead was short-lived with the Broncs answering with four runs in the third and five more in the fourth to take the 10-2 lead. All four in the third came with two outs. Riley Goulding hit a 3-0 pitch over the wall in left, accounting for two of the runs.

In the fourth, Ramirez hit a two-run home run for UTPA in the five-run frame.

The Wolverines chipped away, getting two in the fifth; Kade Andrus had an RBI single and Bogden a sacrifice fly to make it 10-4.

Hatch's triple scored Andrus, Pratt and Bogden to tie the game before the Broncs answered with two in the bottom of the inning. Jacob Huckabay had an RBI double and Ramirez singled Huckabay home.

The Wolverines will be the fourth seed in next week's Great West Conference Tournament and face fifth-seed North Dakota on Tuesday. The final GWC tournament is being held at Bear & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark, New Jersey and hosted by NJIT.
