LONG BEACH, Calif. -
Utah Valley University will finish up a season-opening streak of 16 straight road games with a three game series at Long Beach State beginning on Friday and a single game at Cal State Northridge on Monday.

It will be the first-ever meeting between Utah Valley and Long Beach State. Northridge swept UVU in a four-game series last season in the first meeting between the two programs.

The Wolverines (3-9) salvaged the final game of a four-game series at Pacific. The teams played doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday after rain forced the postponement of Friday’s scheduled opener.

Sophomore Mark Krueger homered in the finale, breaking a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth at the time. The Wolverines added on six runs in the top of the ninth before the Tigers made a game of it with five in the bottom half of the inning. Chad Michaud was able to hold off the Pacific threat though pick up his first save. Krueger is leading the team at the plate with a .333 average.

Long Beach State (6-6) has won three straight after taking two in a midweek series at Arizona. The Dirtbags split two games at Wichita State last weekend before the two wins in Tucson. LBSU, picked fifth in the Big West preseason poll, also has a win over Arizona State early on.

Cal State Northridge is in the midst of a busy stretch of seven games in eight days and will be at Sam Houston State for three games before hosting the Wolverines. The Matadors’ early season schedule includes a home series, four-game split against WAC school Seattle U.

The Wolverines open WAC play on Friday, March 14 at home against North Dakota in a three-game series. It will also be the home opener for UVU in its first-ever WAC series.
