PULLMAN, Washington - The Utah Valley State baseball team lost the opening game of a four game series to Washington State 11-2 on Friday. Kory Drew was once again the top hitter for the Wolverines as he went 3-4. Drew led off the game with a double, marking the fifth straight game he's reached to lead off the game. He is now hitting .423 on the season.

Kam Mickolio pitched well early for the Wolverines as the game was scoreless with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. But Washington State strung together four straight singles to score three runs to take the lead.

"We have to make better adjustments at the plate," said Wolverine Assistant Nate Mathis. "The ball doesn't fly here so we have to hit the ball hard on a line or hard on the ground to be successful."

In the fifth inning, with the score at 3-1 the Cougars scored five runs to break the game open. Washington State out-hit the Wolverines 15-6, improving their record to 13-9 while Utah Valley dropped to 5-14 and have now lost eight in a row.

Trent Perry had two hits for Utah Valley, while Canyon Vance was the only other Wolverine with a hit.

The series resumes tomorrow when the teams play a double header starting at 1:00pm MST. The start time for the game has been pushed back an hour from its original 2:00pm MST start.

Tomorrow's forecast calls for rain and temperatures in the high 40's to low 50's. The games can be heard live on wolverinesports.net by clicking on the live audio link on the left of the main page.
