Coming off of its first series win of the season at Dallas Baptist over the weekend, Utah Valley University will face UNLV in a Tuesday midweek contest at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PT.

The Wolverines (7-16) are slated to start senior right-hander Devin Nelson (1-3, 4.15) with the Rebels (16-7) starting sophomore right-hander Kenny Oakley (0-2, 1.47)

Over the weekend, UVU won the first two in the three-game series at DBU, picking up a 10-5 win after jumping out early and then warding off a Patriot comeback in the latter innings in the opener. In Saturday’s middle game, UVU trailed 3-1 in the ninth but rallied for five runs to come back and win 6-3. The Patriots won Sunday’s finale 4-1. Sophomore Craig Brinkerhoff  hit 500 (5-for-10) in the weekend series.

UNLV (16-7) moved to 9-3 in Mountain West action by taking two of three from San Diego State over the weekend. The Rebels are 12-1 at home so far this season. As a pitching staff, UNLV ranks in the top 10 nationally in team ERA with a combined 2.18 earned run average.

Utah Valley has ties to the UNLV baseball program: associate head coach Dave Carter pitched for UNLV in 1988 and 1989 and former Wolverine assistant coach Kevin Lofthus was an All-American for the Rebels in 1989.

UNLV head coach Tim Chambers played for Utah Valley during its junior college era. Chambers played the 1985 season and batted .376 before finishing his career at Dixie and Southern Utah.

The Wolverines return to WAC play with a home series against Bakersfield beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. Next week they’ll travel to BYU on Tuesday before heading to Chicago State for a three-game WAC series.
