OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University returns home for a three-game WAC series against Bakersfield beginning Friday at 6 p.m MT from Brent Brown Ballpark. The remaining schedule for the final two games of the weekend has changed due to expected storms in the area and the teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 3 p.m. MT.
The Wolverines (7-17, 1-2) are coming off of their first series win of the season last weekend at Dallas Baptist, winning the first of three games in Texas. UVU dropped a midweek at UNLV, 8-3, on Tuesday against the Rebels who are ranked 25th in Perfect Game's latest poll.
It's just the second home series of the year for Utah Valley, which has played 21 of its first 24 games on the road. The Wolverines are 1-2 in the WAC, dropping a series to North Dakota two weeks ago in the opening WAC series.
Sophomore Craig Brinkerhoff currently leads the club with a .294 batting average, three home runs and is teid with Sean Moysh for the team lead with 14 RBIs. Brinkerhoff leads all WAC hitters with a .518 slugging percentage.
Bakersfield (10-13, 3-3) took two of three from North Dakota at home last weekend before dropping a midweek to UC Irvine on Tuesday. The Roadrunners, last season's WAC regular season champions, were picked to finish first in the coaches preseason poll. This week's schedule marks the first time UVU and CSUB will meet on the diamond.
Next week the Wolverines will play at BYU on Tuesday before a three-game series in WAC play at Chicago State over the weekend.
