Doxey GWC Player of the Week; Wolverines Host Utes

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley freshman Kirk Doxey was named the Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. On Tuesday, the Wolverines (9-21) host Utah at 6 p.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark. Live audio of the game can be heard at WolverineGreen.com.

Doxey was eight-for-18 on the week with five home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and a slugging percentage of an outstanding 1.444. The outfielder became first UVU player with three home runs in a game and tied school record with six batted in Saturday's loss to the Air Force Academy. He also had a HR, double and triple and three RBI in the Wolverines' 12-10 win over Air Force earlier in the weekend series.

The Wolverines split an offensive-filled four-game series with Air Force over the weekend. UVU won the first two, 13-7 and 12-10, before the Falcons won the final two, 22-21 and 18-14.

The teams combined for 117 runs, 146 hits and 26 home runs on the weekend. As a team, Utah Valley increased its batting average 29 points.

Kevin Arendse was 11-for-16 (.688) in the series with 12 runs batted in while Billy Burgess homered three times and batted .600 (6-for-10) in the series. Jace Brinkerhoff was 12-for-21 (.571) upping his team-leading average to .431 and Brandon Hill was 6-for-11 (.545) and had a .706 on-base percentage.

Tuesday's contest will be the second of three meetings between UVU and Utah (13-14) and the second in a week in Orem. The Utes used a six-run seventh inning last Tuesday to defeat the Wolverines 9-6. The teams will also face off on April 28 in Orem on Senior Day in the Wolverines' final home game of the year.

This weekend's four-game series at Sacramento State has been changed. The series was originally scheduled to be four games over three days (Friday-Sunday). The teams are now scheduled to play doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. MT.
