NEWARK, N.J. -- Utah Valley University opens the final Great West Conference baseball tournament on Tuesday morning against fifth-seed North Dakota at 9 a.m. ET/7 a.m. MT. The Wolverines are the four seed after going 15-9 in league play. The tournament is at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium and hosted by NJIT.
UVU (24-28) has gone 12-0 all-time in the Great West tournament in its three seasons of existence, winning the league's first three tournament titles. The Wolverines will head to the WAC next season.
North Dakota (23-20) went 13-11 in the GWC this season including a 5-1 mark over the final six games. UND will be a member of the WAC as a baseball-only affiliate starting in 2014.
Utah Valley and North Dakota did not play each other this season. The series, schedule for Grand Forks in April was cancelled due to snow. The Wolverines are 3-0 in the GWC Tournament against UND and 11-0 overall all-time.
The winner will face the either Northern Colorado (the regular season champion) or Chicago State on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. ET. The losers will play an elimination game on Wednesday at 9 a.m. ET. Northern Colorado became the first, and only, team to unseat the Wolverines atop the GWC's regular season in the league's four seasons.
The league announced its 2013 All-Conference teams on Monday night with UVU senior Kai Hatch receiving first-team honors for the third straight season. Hatch is batting a team-best .327 with 18 doubles.
Utah Valley had four players named to the second-team with all being selected to the all-conference team for the first time. Senior pitchers Jeff Barto and Justin Campbell, junior outfielder Riley White and freshman first baseman Mark Krueger joined Hatch as All-GWC team members.
