OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley bench sparked a 14-0 run early in the second half to help the Wolverines to a 58-47 win over Northern Illinois on Monday night in the UCCU Center.
With the game tied at 29, Keawe Enos hit a pair of 3-pointers and Alfonzo Hubbard scored four points as three players off the bench contributed 12 of the 14 points during the spurt.
"Our bench was instrumental in this victory," said UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker. "We got our best production off the bench this season, particularly in the second half. They really sparked us."
All-American guard Isiah Williams hit four first-half 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 15 while Geddes Robinson - who earlier Monday was named Great West Player of the Week - had his fourth double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Enos scored a season-high 11 points while Ben Aird chipped in nine points and nine boards and Hubbard added seven points.
After Utah Valley (4-3) led 27-24 at the break, the game was tied with 16:06 left when Aird started the decisive run with a tip-in. Enos hit a three off an Aird offensive board, then followed it up with an assist to Hubbard for a layup.
Enos drilled another trey to extend the lead to 41-29 before the run was capped when Kevin Woods rolled in a reverse layup with 10:16 left.
After Northern Illinois (0-6) trimmed the lead back to nine, the Wolverines stretched the lead to 18 with an 11-4 run to put the game out of reach. The Huskies, of the Mid-American Conference, were led by eight points from Abdel Nader.
Up next for Utah Valley will be Wyoming on Wednesday in Laramie in the first of two games between the schools this season. The Cowboys, who are 6-1 so far, return to Orem on Jan. 3.
