OREM, Utah -- A big run to begin the game propelled Utah Valley to an 84-49 victory over Haskell in the UCCU Center Friday night. Six Wolverines finished in double figures in the win.
"We got everyone on the court tonight and got in an offensive flow," said UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker. "The game played out well for us being the end of a three-game, five-day stretch."
UVU (5-4) took control from the tip, jumping ahead 19-1 just before the 12:00 mark. The Wolverines got buckets from five different players while Geddes Robinson snatched seven rebounds during the rally.
Utah Valley held Haskell without a field goal for over eight minutes to start the game and forced five turnovers on its way to the early advantage. A 15-2 run to end the half put the Wolverines ahead 45-16 at the break.
Alfonzo Hubbard led the scoring with 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting and Ben Aird dropped in 13. Isiah Williams and Robinson each added 12 while Keawe Enos and Keith Thompson added 11 and 10, respectively.
Robinson finished with nine rebounds while Aird hauled in seven boards. Holton Hunsaker had five assists on a 19-assist night for the Wolverines.
UVU shot 51.5 percent from the field including 54.5 percent in the opening half. Robinson, Hubbard, Aird and Thompson combined to go 21-for-28 from the floor as the Wolverines scored 52 points in the paint.
Utah Valley will now head north to Logan to face Utah State on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
