OREM, Utah - After securing a five-point win over Seattle last Saturday in the UCCU Center, Utah Valley University travels to the Pacific Northwest to again face Seattle University on Friday at 8:10 p.m. MT from KeyArena.
The Wolverines (8-10) got 22 points from Isiah Williams, a career-high 17 from Keith Thompson and eight points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and three steals from Ben Aird. Two key 3-pointers late by Holton Hunsaker and free throws in the closing seconds from Williams and Alfonzo Hubbardhelped UVU prevail after 40 minutes against SU.
"We were very fortunate to come out on top on Saturday night," said Utah Valley head coach Dick Hunsaker. "Seattle's press and pressure defense made it very difficult for us. We know they'll come with a tremendous amount of passion and commitment in our rematch."
The Redhawks (3-11) sandwiched a game against crosstown rival Washington on Tuesday in between the home-and-home match up with Utah Valley. The Pac-12 Huskies held off Seattle - a future member of the WAC - by a score of 91-83. Aaron Broussard, who had 15 points and 11 rebounds against UVU, had another double-double with 20 points and 10 boards. Broussard averages 17.4 points per game to lead Seattle.
Following Friday's contest, Utah Valley returns home to host Saint Mary on Monday in the final tune-up before the start of the Great West Conference schedule. The Wolverines - the defending GWC Champions - open the conference season next Saturday, Jan. 21 at home against North Dakota, the defending GWC Tournament winner.
