NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Utah Valley University's Alfonzo Hubbardhas been named Great West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to two wins last week. The award was announced Monday by the conference office.
Hubbard scored a career-high 24 points and posted another career best with five steals against Houston Baptist to cap a 2-0 week for the Wolverines.
"It's nice to see him recognized for his play," said head coach Dick Hunsaker. "On Saturday he had good aggression and we were very conscious of looking for him and he delivered. It's exciting to watch Alfonzo improve his overall game."
He made 10 of his 14 field goal attempts against HBU to help Utah Valley notch its first win in GWC play. He also scored 18 points in a non-conference road win at UMKC.
The Great West Sixth Man of the Year as a junior, Hubbard averaged 21 points, 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds on the week, all while shooting more than 65 percent (17-26) from the field.
Utah Valley travels to Edinburg, Texas this week for a Great West game at Texas-Pan American on Saturday at 6 p.m. MT.
