OREM, Utah -- In its final tune up prior to the start of the Great West Conference basketball schedule, Utah Valley will host the University of Saint Mary on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. in the UCCU Center. The game can be heard live on 960 AM the Zone and streamed live on WolverineGreen.com.
UVU (9-10) scored a road win at Seattle on Friday night, using a 27-5 first-half run in the first half to take control of the game before answering any run the Redhawks made in the second half. It was the second straight game - and win - for UVU against Seattle in less than a week.
Saint Mary, an NAIA school from Leavenworth, Kansas, is 14-3 overall and led by Jordan Wilcox. Wilcox is one of four players averaging double figures for the Spires, scoring 13.1 points per game.
"Saint Mary is a team that's been playing very well in their league," said Utah Valley coach Dick Hunsaker. "We know they'll be excited for this game and really come out with a lot of emotion and energy."
In Friday's win at Seattle, six players scored in double figures for Utah Valley with Isiah Williams' 19 leading the way. Williams 15.0 points per game leads UVU and ranks second among Great West Conference players.
Keith Thompson scored 18 points, marking the second straight game he has set a new career high, while Alfonzo Hubbard matched his high with 14. Ben Aird had 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, Geddes Robinson added 11 points and 13 boards and Holton Hunsaker chipped in 10 points, six assists and three steals.
After Monday's game, Utah Valley will begin defense of its Great West Conference title by hosting last season's conference tournament champions, North Dakota, on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in the league opener for both teams.
