OREM, Utah -- The Utah Valley University basketball team plays a pair of non-conference games this week starting Monday night at home against Peru State in the UCCU Center. Tip is set for 7:05 p.m. MT.
The Wolverines (9-12) will also travel to CSU Bakersfield for a contest Saturday against the Roadrunners, a team that will join UVU in the Western Athletic Conference next season.
Peru State is an NAIA Division I program out of Peru, Nebraska. The Bobcats are led by Kody Kirkpatrick's 13.9 points with Nate Bohy adding 13.6 and Derrick Williams scoring 13.2 per game.
"It's great to be playing at home," UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker said. "We know Peru State is very excited and looking forward to playing in a Division I arena."
UVU, playing without two starters, fell in GWC action on Saturday at Chicago State, 62-54. Nick Thompson led the way with 13 points and 13 rebounds with Jason Johnson and Antoine Hosley each adding 11 points.
The Wolverines were without Alfonzo Hubbard for the second straight game and minus the team's leading scorer and league's top rebounder in Ben Aird.
Aird (14.1 ppg) and Hubbard (11.6 ppg) combine to average nearly 26 points and over 13 rebounds per game. Aird also leads the Great West in blocks and field goal percentage.
Holton Hunsaker, who scored nine points on Saturday, continues to lead the Great West in free throw shooting. The junior ranks eighth in the nation at 92 percent from the line. Thompson's 4.5 assists per game also lead the conference.
After Saturday's game in Bakersfield, Utah Valley returns home to host another future WAC foe, Texas-Pan American, in Great West play on Saturday, Feb. 9.
