UVU basketball picks up second win in China

SHENZHEN, China -- The Utah Valley University basketball team picked up its second win in China, holding off Dongguan New Century of the Chinese Basketball Association, 76-70, on Friday night.

With the score knotted at 64-64, the Wolverines ran off nine straight points capped by a Holton Hunsaker 3-pointer. Zach Nelson's steal with 7.0 seconds on the clock later sealed the win.

"Tonight was a priceless experience for our team, particularly for our new players," head coach Dick Hunsaker said. "The group on this trip will remember this game for a lifetime."

Keawe Enos scored 22 points, Nelson had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, Hunsaker scored 13 and Hayes Garrity added 11 for the Wolverines, who are now 2-3 on the trip. All five games have been played against professional teams from the CBA.

Down 24-16 early in the second quarter, UVU went on a 23-3 run to lead 37-27. The Wolverines led by seven at the break with the lead cut to two, 57-55, after three quarters.

UVU will now play the Adelaide 36ers from Australia on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2:15 p.m. in Shenzhen, 12:15 a.m. in Utah.
