OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University men's basketball coach Dick Hunsakerhas announced the schedule for the 2012-13 season, which includes a pair of tournaments including the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.
The 31-game regular schedule comprises a total of 13 games in Orem with nine home contests airing on UVU TV. The Dec. 15 home game against Utah State will also be carried nationally on Fox College Sports.
The Wolverines will play teams from 12 different conferences including two teams each from the Summit League, MEAC, Big Sky, Sun Belt and West Coast Conferences.
"As usual, we have a lot of diversity in our schedule," said UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker. "It will be nice for our fans that we will have Utah State at home in the UCCU Center as well as the beginning of a series with Weber State."
UVU kicks off the season with three consecutive road games, traveling to IUPUI on Nov. 9 and North Carolina A&T on Nov. 12. Those games give way to opening round of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, when the Wolverines visit Pullman, Wash., on Nov. 14 for a date with Pac-12 Washington State.
"We have our work cut out for us with so many road games front-loaded on the schedule," Hunsaker said. "We face some outstanding competition; our new players are going to be tested mentally, emotionally, and physically very early."
UVU plays its home opener on Saturday, Nov. 17, against Arizona Christian before closing out the CBE Classic in Santa Clara, Calif., against Eastern Washington, Santa Clara, and South Carolina Upstate over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Following another road contest at North Carolina Central on Nov. 27, the Wolverines return to Orem for Homecoming on Dec. 1, when they meet West Coast Conference Pepperdine for the first time in program history.
In a rematch of last season's CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament opener, UVU will travel to Weber State on Dec. 5. That game stands as the first of two in-state games for the Wolverines this season including the Dec. 15 date with Utah State.
Two more home games against Troy (Dec. 19) and North Carolina Central (Dec. 22) close out the pre-Christmas schedule.
As it did in 2011-12, UVU will participate in the UT Chattanooga Dr. Pepper Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. While there, the Wolverines draw Austin Peay on Dec. 28, and either host school UT Chattanooga or High Point on Dec. 29.
UVU begins its defense of the last two GWC regular season titles on Jan. 5 against NJIT in Orem. Also, for the third straight season, the Wolverines will face UMKC, visiting Kansas City on Jan. 9 prior to resuming the remainder of the conference slate.
"We're looking forward to another Great West Conference season. We know that our past success will be stiffly challenged by a conference with outstanding returning players and teams," Hunsaker said.
A home-and-home series against CSU Bakersfield begins Feb. 2 in Bakersfield, Calif., and concludes in Orem on March 9 - the final regular season game for the Wolverines before the GWC Tournament begins on March 16 in Chicago.
