OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University head men's basketball coach Dick Hunsaker hosted the fourth annual Hoop Heaven Tuesday in the UCCU Center.
Nearly 25 female UVU employees, staff, and spouses attended the chalk talk that featured lunch, an opportunity to talk with players and coaches, a video session in the locker room, and a closer look at the inner workings of UVU men's basketball.
"This was a fun event and we are so proud of the Wolverine basketball team and all that Coach Hunsaker is doing," said Paige Holland, wife of Utah Valley University President Matthew S. Holland. "It has been great to learn a little about the players and the program. We are seeing that Coach Hunsaker is teaching skills that go beyond the basketball court, like development of core values and work ethic - things that will bless these players for the rest of their lives."
"Today was a great learning experience, getting to know the program a little bit better," explained Evelie Giddings, Generalist for the Human Resources department. "I was able to learn a little more about how the walk-on process works and I was able to see some of the plays. It's great to get to see another side of Coach Hunsaker outside of the game setting."
"It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know the team and the coaching staff in a more intimate setting," said Wolverine Club member Stefanie Barthel. "I haven't missed a home basketball game in two years and I am so appreciative of the contributions of our men's basketball team towards our institution and the sense of unity they bring to our school spirit."
Hunsaker is entering his 11th season at the helm of Wolverine men's basketball and has 187 wins during his time in Orem and 354 over his head-coaching career. UVU begins the 2012-13 season on Nov. 9 when it travels to face IUPUI in Indianapolis.
