Season Opens Against Northern Arizona

Senior Ryan Toolson will begin his senior season after averaging more than 23 points per game in 2007-08.

The Utah Valley University men's basketball season opener will be Friday at 7 p.m. at home against Big Sky opponent Northern Arizona. The Wolverines warmed up in exhibition last week in a 95-77 win against Mesa State and are now ready to begin the 2008-09 campaign.

UVU is led by three senior captains: Josh Olsen, Brett Ravenberg, and Ryan Toolson. Toolson was last season's leading scorer, averaging more than 23 points per game, and has missed only 17 free throws in 321 tries from the line in three years of NCAA competition.

Six newcomers have joined Utah Valley's ranks, including two in-state standouts from 2008's high school graduating class: Taylor Brown of Alta High School and Solomon Jensen of Viewmont High School.

Northern Arizona is fresh off an 82-60 exhibition win against Eastern New Mexico. Friday's game will mark the first time these two teams have met in NCAA competition.

After the game against Northern Arizona, the Wolverines' following three games will be at home against Montana-Western Nov. 18, Louisiana-Lafayette Nov. 22, and Montana Nov. 25.
