OREM, Utah - After a quick trip into Texas, Utah Valley returns to Orem for two games starting Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the UCCU Center against Grambling State. The game can be heard live on 960 AM The Zone and will be televised locally on UVU TV.
The Wolverines are 1-1 on the season after a loss at the University of Houston on Monday night. UVU got 19 points from Isiah Williams and 14 rebounds by Geddes Robinson but couldn't overcome a 37-11 disparity in free throw opportunities, falling 84-71. UVU won its season opener, 80-53, over Simpson last Friday.
The Tigers, of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), are 0-2 after losses at Houston and Ole Miss. Grambling is the first SWAC opponent that Utah Valley will play, now in its ninth season of NCAA Division I competition.
"We're going to have to get our emotions back on track and must prepare for an athletic and long Grambling team," Wolverine coach Dick Hunsaker said. "(PJ) Roberson's a first-team preseason All-Conference player and (Steven) Danridge is big-bodied and long and we've got to prepare for them."
For UVU, Williams is averaging 20.0 ppg after two games while Robinson is averaging a double-double with 13.5 points and 13.0 rebounds.
UVU will also host UMKC in Saturday's Homecoming game at 7 p.m. Anyone wearing black can get into the game for just $1, while anyone who purchases the black homecoming week shirt in the bookstore gets in for free. Saturday's game will also be televised nationally on Fox College Sports Pacific.
