NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Utah Valley's Geddes Robinson has been named Great West Conference Player of the Week after posting a double-double in the Wolverines' opening game last week, earning him the inaugural weekly honor of the 2011-12 season. The award was announced Thursday by the league office.

"Geddes had an outstanding off-season. He worked very hard on his endurance and strength. It's nice to have an early-season reward for his dedication and commitment," said UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker.

Robinson, a senior from Bronx, N.Y., scored 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Utah Valley picked up an 80-53 win last Friday against Simpson University. The preseason All-Conference selection is averaging 11.7 points and 10.7 boards so far this season.
