OREM, Utah - The UVU basketball team begins a stretch of three games in five nights on Monday when the Wolverines host Northern Illinois University at 7:05 p.m. in the UCCU Center. The game can be heard live on 960 AM the Zone.
Utah Valley (3-3) suffered two narrow losses on its Thanksgiving-week trip at SEC Arkansas and Summit League champion Oakland University. In the game at Arkansas, the Wolverines led late before a Razorback run in the final four minutes thwarted the upset bid. Geddes Robinson finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds and Ben Aird also scored 12 and hauled in a career-best 14 rebounds.
At Oakland, in Rochester, Michigan, Isiah Williams set a new career high with 35 points but a hot-shooting start to the second half propelled the Golden Grizzlies past UVU. Holton Hunsaker scored a season-high 17 as the starting guard line combined for 52 points. Robinson collected his third double-double of the young season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Northern Illinois (0-5), of the Mid-American Conference, dropped a 71-57 contest at Boise State on Saturday night. The Huskies, who defeated UVU 86-76 last New Year's Eve in Illinois, feature eight freshmen under first-year head coach Mark Montgomery.
"NIU has a young team and they play with a lot of energy. They beat us a year ago and they certainly have our attention," said UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker.
UVU will travel to Laramie to face Wyoming on Wednesday in what will the first of two games this season against the Cowboys. Wyoming makes the return trip to Orem on Jan. 3 in a game that will air live on Fox College Sports.
